Dr. Helena von Rueden is the Director of Choral Program and Elliott Associate Professor of Fine Arts at Hampden-Sydney College in central Virginia. Dr. von Rueden's research interests focus on inclusive choral experiences and programming. She is the past Assistant Director and Co-Coordinator of the Choral Works Database at the Institute of Composer Diversity, and co-author of "Working toward Balance Programming with Tools from the Institute of Composer Diversity's Choral Works Database". She is a past presenter at the National conference of the American Choral Directors Association and poster presenter at the National Collegiate Choral Organization. She has ADEI training through Chorus America and the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities. In the summer of 2024, she is researching ways to create a choral experience that is inclusive of all music experience levels, cultural and demographic backgrounds, socioeconomic levels, and ages. She conducts the Hampden-Sydney College Chorus and teaches music classes in the Department of Fine Arts at Hampden-Sydney College, and was the founder of The Piedmont Singers of Central Virginia. She performs as a mezzo-soprano soloist and professional choral singer in central Virginia.
